7-Eleven has rehired Dave Strachan as Vice President and Chief of Staff to CEO Joseph DePinto. Strachan previously held the same role from 2016 to 2021 and re-joins the convenience retailer less than a month after the resignation of his successor, Kristen Cook.
Strachan, who spent nearly 16 years at 7-Eleven earlier in his career, brings deep institutional knowledge to the position. During his first tenure as chief of staff, he supported DePinto in building the retailer’s innovation implementation team, brand excellence program and COVID-19 command center. He first joined 7-Eleven in 2009 as a business consultant and subsequently held multiple leadership roles, including senior vice president of fresh foods. He stepped down from that role in October 2024 to attend to family matters.
His return comes at a pivotal moment for 7-Eleven, which is navigating inflationary pressures, declining same-store sales, down 2.7% last fiscal year, with another 1.5% contraction expected in fiscal 2025, and preparations for an IPO targeted for late 2026.
The company did not disclose Strachan’s immediate priorities, but he is expected to work closely with DePinto as 7-Eleven manages economic challenges and positions itself for growth.
