WASHINGTON — AARP has joined the National Association of Chain Drug Stores as a partner in NACDS' “Nourish My Health” campaign. The collaboration was unveiled by NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson during his remarks at AARP’s Global Thought Leadership Conference, Unlocking Health Longevity: A Blueprint for Thriving with Age.
Launched in 2023, "Nourish My Health" is NACDS’ flagship public education campaign aimed at increasing awareness of the critical role nutrition plays in preventing and managing chronic diseases. The initiative is a core part of NACDS’ broader “Food is Medicine” platform and health innovation efforts.
“Chronic diseases are fueling poor health outcomes and unmanageable healthcare costs—especially among older Americans,” Anderson said. “Pharmacists, as trusted community healthcare providers, are uniquely positioned to help. That’s why we’re proud to welcome AARP to the Nourish My Health campaign, which empowers people to take control of their health by addressing diet-related risk factors.”
With the addition of AARP, the campaign now includes a growing coalition of prominent health organizations, such as the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association®, March of Dimes, and the Food is Medicine Institute at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University.
The campaign’s reach spans millions of Americans, with targeted outreach in communities disproportionately affected by nutrition-related diseases. Nourish My Health promotes baseline health screenings, provides nutrition resources for both consumers and healthcare professionals, and shares accessible guides for making healthier food choices.
Anderson emphasized that addressing nutrition insecurity is a national imperative. “Nutrition insecurity is a primary driver of poor health outcomes in the U.S.,” he said. “It leads to billions in healthcare costs, reduced productivity, and shortened life spans. Meaningful partnerships like the one we’ve established with AARP are critical to reversing these trends and building healthier communities.”
Nourish My Health’s digital hub offers a suite of tools and educational materials, including a one-year anniversary video and an infographic outlining the campaign’s impact to date.
