Ahold Delhaize launches ‘Healthy Future Academy’

The e-learning program helps associates globally better integrate health and sustainability into their daily work.

ZAANDAM – Ahold Delhaize has introduced the Healthy Future Academy, a new e-learning program designed to equip associates across its global operations with the tools to better integrate health and sustainability into their daily work.

The digital curriculum features more than 20 interactive, bite-sized lessons that follow the company’s value chain “from farm to plate.” Topics range from climate change, biodiversity and circularity to food waste reduction, healthier customer choices and supplier collaboration. Function-specific modules and case studies allow associates to translate concepts into tangible action.

Ahold Delhaize said the program responds to strong employee demand. According to an internal survey, 80% of respondents identified sustainability action as a key factor in job satisfaction. While the company has long embedded health and sustainability into its strategy and financial planning, associates indicated a desire for more knowledge and practical guidance to act locally.

“The Healthy Future Academy enables colleagues to learn how their role contributes to a collective ambition,” said Alex Holt, Ahold Delhaize’s chief sustainability officer. “Together, we are better positioned to make healthier and more sustainable choices easy and affordable for everyone. What I am most looking forward to is seeing in what ways the learning will turn into actions, big and small, that drive tangible progress and create long-term value.”

Key features of the program include:

  • Foundations course: a practical introduction, covering the health and sustainability challenges in the value chain and how each role contributes. It provides a foundation for engaging customers and partners, collaborating with colleagues, and innovating more effectively.
  • Function-specific modules: complementary courses that dive deeper into health and sustainability topics tailored to specific fields of expertise, such as Finance, Sourcing and Tech.
  • Real-world inspiration: case studies and video stories from teams across Ahold Delhaize who are implementing health and sustainability solutions in their daily work.
  • Interactive and flexible: bite-sized online lessons, supported by live sessions, designed to fit into busy schedules and spark action.

The initiative underscores Ahold Delhaize’s commitment to making sustainability an organization-wide capability, with participation open to associates across functions and regions.
