Ahold USA has named Mark McGowan executive vice president of merchandising and appointed Jan van Dam executive vice president of supply chain and e-commerce. Both men report to chief operating officer James McCann.
McGowan, a veteran of more than two decades with Ahold USA, had been executive vice president of supply chain. He joined Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. in 1991 as a management trainee and held such positions as senior vice president and general manager of Stop & Shop’s New York division; senior vice president of sales; and senior vice president of Stop & Shop’s New England division. In 2009 he was named president of the New England division.
After taking on responsibility for supply chain last year, McGowan led the Ahold USA merchandising team on an interim basis after the departure of Jeff Martin, who had been executive vice president of merchandising and marketing.
"Mark’s strong experience in operations, supply chain and divisional leadership will be a great asset to our merchandising function," said McCann.
Reporting to McGowan are Jeff Dichele, senior vice president of nonperishables merchandising; John Ruane, interim senior vice president of fresh merchandising; Jodie Daubert, senior vice president of sales development; Raymond McCall, senior vice president of pharmacy and HBC merchandising; and Roger Wheeler, senior vice president and Oracle program lead.
Van Dam will focus on leading a supply chain organization that supports Ahold USA and its four divisions: Stop & Shop New England, Stop & Shop New York Metro, Giant Landover and Giant Carlisle.
Van Dam’s direct reports include Jeff Enright, senior vice president of supply chain distribution operations; Walt Lentz, senior vice president of supply chain replenishment and forecasting; Mark Tarzwell, vice president of fresh supply chain projects; and Jerry Pimental, vice president of nonperishable supply chain projects.
In addition to supply chain, van Dam will have responsibility for Ahold USA’s e-commerce business with Peapod president and general manager Andrew Parkinson reporting to him.
Van Dam most recently served as president and CEO of Albert/Hypernova, Ahold’s supermarket business in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
