CARLISLE, Pa. — Former Save-A-Lot executive Tom Lenkevich has joined Ahold USA’s Giant/Martin’s division as president.
Former Save-A-Lot executive Tom Lenkevich has joined Ahold USA’s Giant/Martin’s division as president.
The food and drug retailer said Monday that Lenkevich assumes the new post effective March 4. He will oversee all aspects of the division, with responsibility for sales, operating profit, organization and people.
Ahold’s Giant Carlisle division operates nearly 200 supermarkets in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia under the Giant and Martin’s store banners.
Lenkevich fills the vacancy created with the retirement of Rick Herring last month. Bhavdeep Singh, executive vice president of operations for Ahold USA, had been serving as president of Giant/Martin’s on an interim basis. Lenkevich will report to Singh.
Most recently, Lenkevich was chief operating officer and senior vice president of retail operations at Supervalu Inc. hard-discount grocery chain Save-A-Lot. Before that, he held leadership positions at Meijer Inc., where he was market director, and at A&P, where he served as divisional vice president of operations and vice president of merchandising and sales.
"Tom’s decades of grocery experience combined with his central Pennsylvanian roots makes him a great addition to the Giant/Martin’s division and the Ahold USA leadership team," James McCann, chief operating officer of Ahold USA, said in a statement. "In addition to leading the division, Tom will be driving activities to achieve sales results and working with the Giant/Martin’s team to preserve the heritage of the local brand while at the same time reshaping retail with a strong focus on reinvesting in value and quality, and offering customers an omnichannel shopping experience to meet their needs both today and in the future."
