CARLISLE, Pa. — Ahold USA achieved a number of milestones in the development of its e-commerce operations during 2013, and the grocer has unveiled a number of objectives it plans to achieve by 2016.
Ahold USA achieved a number of milestones in the development of its e-commerce operations during 2013, and the grocer has unveiled a number of objectives it plans to achieve by 2016.
Through effective partnerships between its brick-and-mortar retail divisions and its Peapod online delivery arm, Ahold opened 120 new pickup points while establishing a digital innovation hub in Chicago. The Chicago facility, dubbed Peapod Propulsion Labs, will serve as a center for developing innovation to power the growth of the company’s e-commerce operations.
"The retail world is changing fast, and fulfilling the needs of the connected customer is a crucial part of future growth," said James McCann, chief operating officer of Ahold USA. "Compared to only eight pickup points a year ago, 120 represents great momentum and solid proof of our successful omnichannel execution. Our combination of in-store shopping, home delivery and pickup points is key to delivering on Ahold’s ‘Reshaping Retail’ ambitions."
Ahold’s companywide goal is to triple its online food sales by 2016, and opening pickup points in both the United States and Europe is an important part of reaching that target. Most of the pickup points in the United States are located at Stop & Shop, Giant Food (Giant-Landover) and Giant Food Stores (Giant-Carlisle) locations.
