DENTON, Texas — Discount grocer Aldi opened its first stores in Texas earlier this month, taking the wraps off of 11 units in the Dallas/Fort Worth area on March 18.
Discount grocer Aldi opened its first stores in Texas earlier this month, taking the wraps off of 11 units in the Dallas/Fort Worth area on March 18.
The supermarkets are the first of 27 outlets the company plans to open in North Texas this spring.
Another nine units are expected to open in April, and an additional seven will debut in May.
“There’s no better time than now for great prices, good jobs and a lasting community investment,” says Scott Huska, president of Aldi’s Denton division. “Whether shoppers need to stretch a budget or simply choose to have more money to spend on other things, North Texans can count on us for high-quality select brands at prices no one else can touch.”
Executives say Aldi’s move into Texas is costing the company more than $150 million, which includes $50 million for the construction of a 500,000-square-foot distribution center here.
All told, they note, the Aldi stores and distribution center have created more than 400 jobs in the region.
