BATAVIA, Ill. — ALDI U.S. has announced a major leadership transition. Current CEO Jason Hart will be promoted to Group Chief Operating Officer of the ALDI South Group, effective September 1. In his new role, Hart will help oversee global operations for the international grocer from Salzburg, Austria.
Atty McGrath, currently the company’s Chief Operating Officer, will succeed Hart as CEO of ALDI U.S. McGrath’s promotion ensures strong continuity as the company continues its rapid U.S. expansion.
During Hart’s decade-long tenure as ALDI U.S. CEO, the company more than doubled its store count, from 1,300 in 32 states to over 2,500 locations across 39 states, cementing ALDI as America’s fastest-growing grocery retailer. Under his leadership, the brand has been celebrated for its employee-first culture, commitment to sustainability, and dedication to offering the lowest prices among national grocery chains.
“I am honored to take on this new role with ALDI supporting our global business,” said Hart. “The growth and positive development of the ALDI brand we've achieved together in the U.S. is a tribute to our incredible teams across the business. I look forward to working with ALDI teams around the globe to drive our growth and success.”
McGrath brings over 20 years of ALDI experience to the top U.S. post, having held roles from district manager to division vice president before becoming COO. She will now lead the company’s continued U.S. expansion, including a plan to open 800 new stores over the next five years, 225 in 2025 alone.
“On behalf of the entire ALDI U.S. team, I extend heartfelt thanks to Jason for his unwavering dedication and remarkable leadership,” said incoming Chief Executive Officer Atty McGrath. “I am excited to build upon our momentum, expand our footprint and continue adapting to serve our customers.”
Already in 2025, ALDI has opened 55 new stores, with another 75 set to open this summer in high-growth markets such as Arizona, California, Florida, and South Carolina, as well as core regions like the Midwest and Northeast.
