Aldi Inc. has announced that it is promoting Jason Hart to chief executive officer, effective April 1.
The company described the move as a structural adjustment to its senior leadership that is intended to support the retailer’s further expansion, both in the United States and internationally.
Hart currently serves as president for Aldi US. He shares that post with Chuck Youngstrom and David Behm, who will continue in their roles of co-presidents.
Aldi is in the early stages of an accelerated strategic growth plan in the United States, which involves opening 650 new stores across the country, bringing its total number of U.S. stores to nearly 2,000 by the end of 2018.
The expansion, which will include growth in Southern California, is expected to create more than 10,000 new jobs at Aldi stores, warehouses and division offices, according to the company. Aldi currently operates more than 1,300 U.S. stores in 32 states.
