NEW YORK – Aldi this week announced it is lowering prices to make it possible to feed a Thanksgiving gathering of 10 people for less than $47.
The discount grocery chain said its Thanksgiving shopping list includes a Butterball turkey with spices, gravy, rolls, macaroni & cheese, stuffing, the ingredients for cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie.
"Every day at Aldi we are focused on finding ways to deliver the lowest possible prices for our customers,” CEO Jason Hart said in a press release. "With 25% of U.S households now shopping Aldi, we know grocery prices are still top of mind for customers. We worked hard this Thanksgiving to deliver the best value and quality products so everyone can enjoy a traditional meal with family and friends without having to scale back.”
The statement noted that its Thanksgiving special comes as the company is expanding into new markets and eager to make a positive first impression. “Whether checking off a weekly grocery list or planning a holiday meal, Aldi is ready to earn the trust of new communities with shelves stocked with everything needed to satisfy families and impress guests,” the company said.
Walmart, meanwhile, announced this week it is offering an “inflation-free Thanksgiving meal” through Christmas Eve.
This year's meal features 29 items and serves eight people for less than $7 per person, the Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer said.
Walmart also said customers can buy meals for loved ones anywhere in the U.S. by going to the retailer’s website. Customers can also spend $50 and donate the equivalent of a Thanksgiving meal to their local Salvation Army.
