Amazon awards $16 million in tuition for U.S. CS students

Since its inception in 2019, the Amazon Future Engineer program has awarded 1,650 scholarships.

Micah Hill from Laurel High School, Mississippi, is one of the recipients of Amazon's scholarship.

SEATTLE – Amazon has announced the awarding of $16 million in college tuition to 400 high school seniors across the United States through its Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship program. Each recipient will receive up to $40,000 over four years to pursue computer science-related degrees at the U.S. college or university of their choice. Additionally, the scholarship includes a paid internship offer at Amazon after the recipients' freshman year, providing practical work experience and mentorship from technology leaders.

The 2025 cohort comprises students from nearly 40 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. Recipients were selected based on academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, community involvement, work experience, future goals, and financial need. Since its inception in 2019, the Amazon Future Engineer program has awarded 1,650 scholarships totaling $66 million in college tuition to students from underrepresented communities across the U.S.

One notable recipient is Micah Hill from Laurel High School in Mississippi. Inspired by her brother, Samuel, a 2021 Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship recipient, and the film “Hidden Figures,” Hill organized a week-long coding program for fifth- to eighth-grade girls to learn fundamentals in 3D printing. She plans to attend the University of Southern Mississippi alongside her brother and aspires to build a career at a large global tech company.

“I didn't know the statistics regarding women in computer science were so disproportionate,” Hill said. “I wanted to provide girls in my community with an opportunity to learn how to code and print in 3D.”

The Amazon Future Engineer program aims to provide access to computer science education for underserved and underrepresented communities. Since its inception, the program has reached 3.9 million students globally.

“Education has the power to transform lives, and we are excited to help support 400 talented students on their journey into future careers,” said Alice Shobe, Global Director of Community Impact at Amazon. “Amazon Future Engineer scholarships combine educational funding with tangible work experience. We believe these scholars will help shape the future through innovation and leadership for years to come.”
