Amazon speeds up delivery times again

Prime members will pay $4.99 for three-hour delivery or $9.99 for delivery within one hour.

SEATTLE — Amazon.com Inc. today introduced one-hour and three-hour delivery options for shoppers across the United States on more than 90,000 items.

Amazon said three-hour delivery is now available in some 2,000 cities and towns, while one-hour delivery is available in hundreds of those communities.

Amazon Prime members will pay $4.99 for delivery within three hours and $9.99 if they want the ordered merchandise to arrive in 60 minutes or less. Shoppers without Prime will pay $14.99 for three-hour delivery and $19.99 for one-hour service.

Prime members get same-day and next-day delivery for free.

“Our customers are busier than ever and are looking for new ways to save time while keeping their households running,” Udit Madan, Amazon’s senior vice president of worldwide operations, said in a statement.

Items eligible for one-hour and three-hour delivery will feature new messaging beside product names on the online retailer’s website and shopping app. Consumers can also browse via “in 1 hour” or “in 3 hours” search filters, as well as at a dedicated storefront shopping page in areas where the options are available.

Amazon said it’s able to speed up deliveries thanks to its predictive AI inventory placement algorithms as well as ongoing advances in merchandise picking, sorting, and fulfillment at “highly efficient” hubs at its existing same-day delivery facilities.

Amazon said last month that it shipped over 13 billion items worldwide to Prime members either on the same day or the next day in 2025, marking its fastest delivery speeds ever for the third year in a row. In the U.S. alone, Prime members received more than 8 billion items in a day, up over 30% year over year.

Groceries and everyday essentials drove much of that growth, making up about half of all same- or next-day deliveries to U.S. Prime members in 2025. Amazon stated its faster delivery network helped U.S. members save an average of $550 on fast, free delivery last year, compared to the annual cost of a Prime membership.

Prime memberships cost  $139 a year or $14.99 per month.
