PLEASANTON, Calif. — Anabi Oil Corporation has acquired 12 convenience stores from C&J Cox Corporation and its affiliates, strengthening the company’s presence in Northern California’s Tri-Valley and Lake Tahoe regions. Matrix Capital Markets Group Inc., which advised Cox on the transaction, confirmed the deal closed on November 12.
The acquisition includes nine stores in the Tri-Valley area and three in the Lake Tahoe region. The locations operate under the Cox Family Stores banner and sell motor fuels under the Shell, Chevron, and Valero brands. Cox will continue to own and operate two Tri-Valley stores that were not part of the sale.
“The Cox family built one of the most admired convenience store networks in Northern California, and we consider it a privilege to continue that legacy,” said Sam Anabi of Anabi Oil. He noted that the transition has been “exceptionally smooth,” with existing teams staying in place and customer service remaining uninterrupted.
The purchase follows Anabi Oil’s October agreement to acquire Green Valley Grocery, based in Southern Nevada. This deal includes 87 stores across the Las Vegas area. At the time of the announcement, Anabi Oil stated that the combined network would promote innovation, strengthen loyalty programs, and improve operational efficiencies while respecting the Green Valley Grocery brand’s longstanding presence in the market.
Anabi Oil runs the Rebel convenience store brand and is expanding through strategic regional acquisitions.
