LAS VEGAS — In one of the most significant convenience-store transactions of the year, Anabi Oil has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Green Valley Grocery, a nearly 50-year-old Las Vegas–area retail chain with 87 locations across southern Nevada. The acquisition, which remains subject to customary approvals, will expand Anabi’s presence in the region while retaining the Green Valley Grocery name.
The deal brings together two of Nevada’s best-known convenience retail operators — Upland, Calif.-based Anabi Oil, parent of the Rebel brand, and Green Valley Grocery, founded by Richard T. Crawford in 1978. Together, they aim to build on their shared commitment to local service, community engagement and operational innovation.
“Green Valley Grocery has been a cornerstone of Las Vegas for nearly 50 years, and we are honored to carry that legacy forward,” said Sam Anabi, founder and owner of Anabi Oil. “This acquisition is about our long-term commitment to Nevada — keeping the Green Valley Grocery name alive, strengthening Rebel’s place in the community, and continuing to invest in the future of convenience for the families and neighborhoods we serve.”
Building on Two Nevada Icons
Green Valley Grocery has grown from a single neighborhood store into one of southern Nevada’s most recognized convenience brands, known for its foodservice program, friendly service and philanthropic presence in the community. Founder Rick Crawford said the sale reflects confidence in Anabi’s ability to sustain that legacy.
“When I first came to Las Vegas in the 1970s, I saw so much potential, and I’m glad to say that I was right,” Crawford said. “Nevada is a state made for small business growth, and I’m fortunate to have been able to run a company that’s been part of so many Las Vegans’ lives.”
Anabi Oil, founded in 1991, began with a single station in Baldwin Park, Calif., and has since grown into one of the nation’s largest family-owned convenience and fuel retailers. The company acquired Rebel Convenience Stores in 2016 and now operates more than 500 locations nationwide. Once the Green Valley Grocery deal is finalized, Anabi’s network will exceed 570 stores.
Growth and Stewardship
The acquisition marks a continuation of Anabi’s rapid expansion strategy following its 2024 purchase of Florida-based Fast Track convenience stores. Yet, Anabi emphasized that the Nevada transaction is equally about stewardship.
“Green Valley Grocery and Rebel each bring unique strengths to the Las Vegas market,” the company said. “The combined network will drive innovation, expand loyalty programs, and create efficiencies that position the business to honor Green Valley Grocery’s legacy while investing in its future.”
For both companies, the transaction underscores the enduring importance of local identity and trust in an increasingly consolidated convenience sector — a reminder that, even as the industry scales, community roots still matter.
