BJ’s Wholesale Club enters Texas

BJ’s Texas debut underscores the intensifying competition in warehouse retail.

FORNEY, Texas — BJ's Wholesale Club is making its long-anticipated entry into Texas, opening its first location in the state on April 24 in Forney, about 25 miles east of Dallas. The site marks the company’s 264th club nationwide and signals a broader push into the fast-growing Dallas-Fort Worth market.

The new club, located at 11150 E. U.S. Highway 80, brings BJ’s membership-based warehouse model into direct competition with Costco and Sam's Club, offering bulk groceries, general merchandise, and fuel savings to paying members.

The Forney location features a comprehensive assortment typical of BJ’s clubs, including a bakery, full-service deli, optical center, apparel and footwear departments and a tire center. A members-only gas station is already operational on-site.

To drive early traffic, BJ’s is promoting a one-day fuel offer: regular gasoline is priced at $2 per gallon on April 22, capped at 30 gallons per member.

“Launching our Texas operations is a milestone for our company, and we know our model of saving up to 25% off grocery store prices every day will resonate with families in Forney and across the Dallas-Fort Worth area,” said Bob Eddy, chairman and CEO.

Founded in 1984 in Marlborough, Mass., BJ’s has historically concentrated its footprint along the East Coast, with additional growth across the Southeast and Midwest. The Texas debut represents a strategic geographic expansion into one of the country’s most competitive and fastest-growing retail markets.

The Forney opening is just the beginning. BJ’s plans to launch additional clubs in Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, Mesquite and Waxahachie in the coming weeks, building density across the DFW metroplex.

BJ’s Wholesale Club to add 25-30 new locations within two years
According to the company, each new BJ’s location is anticipated to generate 100 to 150 jobs in its local community.

BJ’s positions itself around everyday value and one-stop convenience, offering members savings across fresh foods, produce, household essentials, electronics, apparel and more. Introductory membership promotions are also in play, with limited-time offers starting at $20 annually and fuel discounts for new members.

Alongside the opening, BJ’s is investing locally, providing a $25,000 grant to the Forney Food Pantry to support food access, storage and distribution efforts in the community.
