MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — BJ’s Wholesale Club is supporting its growth strategy with plans to build a new 500,000-square-foot distribution center in Commercial Point, Ohio. The D.C. —its fourth ambient distribution facility—set to open in early 2027. The investment marks a significant expansion in the company’s supply chain infrastructure as it continues to scale operations across the Midwest and beyond.
With eight clubs already operating in Ohio and more than 30 new clubs opened in the past five years, BJ’s is rapidly growing its footprint. Later this week, the retailer will celebrate a milestone with the opening of its 250th club in Louisville, Kentucky. The company has also seen a 35% surge in membership since 2019, bringing its total to 7.5 million members.
“Our business has grown meaningfully over the years, and we continue to invest in our supply chain to better serve members,” said Krystyna Kostka, BJ’s senior vice president and chief supply chain officer. “With the opening of this new distribution center, we’ll have the agility to support our clubs more efficiently than ever—ensuring members have the products they need, when and where they expect them—all at unbeatable value.”
A Future-Ready Supply Chain
BJ's says the Commercial Point facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art automation technology from Swisslog, a global leader in warehouse logistics. The system will feature automated pallet storage, case-handling equipment, and mixed-case pallet building, allowing BJ’s to streamline replenishment and maintain optimal inventory levels across its growing network.
“Swisslog is pleased to support BJ’s Wholesale Club’s supply chain with innovative automation solutions,” said Sean Wallingford, president and CEO of Swisslog Americas. “This project reinforces our commitment to empowering retailers with efficient, reliable, and sustainable logistics solutions tailored to their unique business requirements.”
BJ’s adds that its investment in the new distribution center is also a win for Ohio's Pickaway County, where the facility will be located. Sitting on a 125-acre site at Rickenbacker Exchange, the development will bring new business and job opportunities to the region, officials say.
“The project at Rickenbacker Exchange at Commercial Point is a tremendous opportunity for the economic growth of Pickaway County,” said Phil Rasey, vice president at VanTrust Real Estate, the firm overseeing the development. “VanTrust is honored to partner with BJ’s Wholesale Club as we work to bring new business to the Village of Commercial Point.”
The Ohio distribution center will store and distribute grocery and general merchandise items for BJ’s, ensuring smoother inventory management for the company as it continues expanding into new markets. With room for future expansion, the facility positions BJ’s for long-term growth in the warehouse club sector, where it competes with rivals such as Costco and Sam’s Club.
BJ’s has been aggressive in expanding its footprint and supply chain efficiency. By strategically investing in logistics capabilities, BJ’s aims to deliver better value and convenience to its growing member base.
