CHESAPEAKE, Va. — In January Bonita Price was promoted to chief merchant of the Family Dollar unit of Dollar Tree Inc. She had been senior vice president of merchandising for the chain.
In her new post, Price is responsible for the strategic direction of Family Dollar’s merchandising, merchandising operations and marketing. In her previous role, Price oversaw Family Dollar’s discretionary categories, including home, general merchandise, seasonal and apparel.
“As I step into this expanded role, my mission is to be there for our customers now more than ever as a convenient and affordable shopping destination,” said Bonita. “Family Dollar has been a fixture in neighborhoods across the country for more than 60 years, and our customers depend on us to care for their families. I am committed to protecting the Family Dollar legacy to ensure we are here to serve our customers far into the future.”
Price joined Family Dollar in 2018 as VP and general merchandise manager for apparel. She is credited with leading a business transformation that improved results in three key metrics: sales, profitability and inventory turnover. In 2022 she was promoted to senior VP of merchandising.
Price’s value retailing career spans over 25 years, starting out as senior buyer for seasonal decor, frames and luggage for Mervyn’s.
Price says she has a passion for developing high-quality but affordable products for consumers in underserved communities. She serves as an executive sponsor of an associate resource group that supports African American associates — the group is open to all associates in the company. She also sits on the board of trustees for the Southeast region of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
