CHICAGO — bp pulse, bp’s global electric vehicle charging division, has launched a new EV charging hub near O’Hare International Airport, expanding its U.S. airport-focused network and marking its sixth major airport hub opening in 2025.
Located roughly three miles from ORD, the site is one of the largest EV charging hubs in Illinois. It offers 40 ultrafast charging bays with a mix of 400 kW and 150 kW DC fast chargers, supporting both CCS and NACS connectors. The hub features a covered canopy and free Wi-Fi, with nearby amenities at a bp-branded retail location, including a convenience store, coffee shop, and restaurants.
The Chicago opening builds on bp pulse’s strategy of establishing high-capacity charging hubs near major airports to serve ride-hail drivers and local EV users. The company already operates similar hubs near airports in Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco, Fort Lauderdale, and Houston.
“Opening our sixth major airport hub is a significant milestone in our commitment to expanding our EV charging network across the United States,” said Sujay Sharma, CEO of bp pulse Americas. “By strategically placing our hubs in high-demand locations like airports, we’re making it easier for drivers to access fast and reliable charging, while also benefiting from the amenities already available at bp retail sites.”

To mark the opening, bp pulse hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony with local officials and partners, including ComEd. An EV driver event held on December 18 offered limited-time charging at one cent per kWh.
The project received public funding support, including a $500,000 rebate from ComEd’s Make Ready Rebate program and a $320,000 grant from the Illinois EPA’s Driving a Cleaner Illinois Program. This funding is part of broader state efforts under the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act to expand publicly available EV charging infrastructure.
bp pulse continues expanding its charging network across bp, Amoco, ampm, Thorntons, and TravelCenters of America locations, as well as new and destination sites, highlighting ultrafast charging along with retail and foodservice amenities.
