GREENSBORO, N.C.—The Fresh Market, Inc. has announced the appointment of Brian Johnson as its new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective February 3, 2025. He will succeed Jason Potter, who is stepping down to lead the Grocery Outlet Holding Corp. as president and CEO.

The Fresh Market also expressed gratitude to Potter for his leadership over the past five years, during which he helped guide the company through significant growth and transformation.

Johnson, who has been The Fresh Market's chief operating officer (COO) since 2020, has more than thirty years of experience in the grocery and retail industries. Under his leadership, the company expanded into new markets across the East Coast and the Midwest, further solidifying its position as a specialty fresh food retailer. Prior to joining The Fresh Market, Johnson was division vice president at Brookshire Grocery Company in Texas.

“I want to thank the Board of Directors and our team at The Fresh Market for putting their confidence in me,” Johnson said in a statement. “As a company, we have a lot of momentum going into 2025, and I look forward to working alongside the team as we continue to grow, innovate, and create meaningful customer experiences. I also look forward to working with the Board of Directors as we chart our course to becoming America’s premiere specialty fresh food retailer—or America’s most loved brand.”

The company highlighted the strength of its senior leadership team, which includes several recent additions: Revae Embs, group vice president of human resources; Emily Turner, group vice president and chief marketing officer; and Marcio Ribeiro, group vice president and chief information officer. The team will report directly to Johnson.
