C-stores expand East Coast footprint

Buc-ee’s, Wawa, QuickChek, and Arko Corp. add new locations across multiple states.

Buc-ee’s recently opened a store in Brunswich, Georgia, in July.

August 13, 2025 — Several major convenience retailers are growing their presence along the East Coast. Buc-ee’s, Wawa, QuickChek, and Arko Corp. have each announced new store openings or development plans spanning Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, New Jersey, and Virginia.

In Georgia, Buc-ee’s will open its fourth location in the state in March 2027 in Monroe County, according to WRDW. The project, approved by the state following a vote by the county board of commissioners in December, will include an estimated $10 million in road improvements, such as new traffic lights and roundabouts. Buc-ee’s currently operates in Calhoun, Warner Robins, and Brunswick, the latter having opened in July.

Wawa is expanding its presence with several openings this month. Its newest store in Nottingham, Maryland, will open on August 14 at 8100 Belair Road, offering free coffee through August 17 and a free t-shirt to the first 100 customers. On the same day, Wawa will break ground on its first Wilmington, North Carolina, location, part of a 10-store regional expansion, with Mayor Bill Saffo and other officials in attendance. Later this month, on Aug. 21, Wawa will open its eighth store in Ocala, Florida.

In New Jersey, QuickChek has opened a store in Robbinsville, its 204th location. The store is led by Anthony Smedira, a 30-year veteran of QuickChek, whose leadership was highlighted in the company’s announcement on LinkedIn.

Arko Corp. has also added to its network, debuting a remodeled fas craves store in Mechanicsville, Virginia, on Aug. 6. The location, part of Arko’s food-first concept rollout, will celebrate a grand opening from Sept. 17–30 with special promotions and community events.
