Cardenas Markets Foundation tees up nearly $900,000 for communities

The 22nd annual golf tournament supports education, hunger relief, disaster response and health initiatives.

ONTARIO, Calif. — The Cardenas Markets Foundation raised nearly $900,000 at its 22nd Annual Golf Tournament, generating funds for scholarships and community programs focused on hunger relief, disaster response and health and wellness.

The charitable arm of Cardenas Markets, a Heritage Grocers Group banner, held the tournament Sept. 21 at Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club in Southern California. The event brought together vendor partners, Heritage Grocers Group team members and community supporters.

Proceeds will support the foundation’s efforts to expand access to education through scholarships while addressing other needs in the communities served by Cardenas Markets.

“The true measure of this event's success is not the funds raised alone, but the lasting impact those resources will have on individuals, families, and communities,” said Adam Salgado, president of the Cardenas Markets Foundation and chief experience officer of Heritage Grocers Group.

“Every scholarship awarded, every family supported, and every opportunity created begins with people who believe in giving back,” Salgado added. “We're incredibly grateful for the generosity of our vendor partners, sponsors, and Team Members who make that impact possible.”

The tournament also incorporated the foundation’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Attendees heard from decorated U.S. Army veteran Ramon Padilla, a native of Tijuana, Mexico, who served in Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan.

After sustaining life-changing injuries in combat, Padilla has devoted himself to supporting fellow veterans and his community. In recognition of his service, the Cardenas Markets Foundation made a $1,000 donation to the Salute Military Golf Association on his behalf.

The organization helps wounded and injured veterans through golf programs designed to support rehabilitation and improve quality of life.

The golf tournament is part of the Cardenas Markets Foundation’s broader philanthropic efforts. For more than two decades, the organization has supported students, families and communities through educational scholarships and charitable initiatives.

The foundation focuses its giving in four primary areas — education, hunger relief, disaster relief, and health and well-being — with the annual golf tournament providing funding to help sustain those programs.

Cardenas Markets is part of Heritage Grocers Group, a specialty grocery company focused on serving Hispanic and multicultural communities. The foundation serves as the banner’s primary vehicle for charitable giving and community investment.
