Roundy’s Inc., a leading grocer in the Midwest, has opened a new Mariano’s location in the Ravenswood area of Chicago, its largest store to date.
The 80,500-square-foot store is the 19th Mariano’s in the Chicago area and will employ more than 600 people. It features the new Nob’s Wine Bar, which offers live music.
Mariano’s rapid expansion since it opened its first store in 2010 was accelerated by the December acquisition of 11 Dominick’s stores in Illinois, four of which have already reopened under the Mariano’s banner.
"We’re excited to continue growing our banner in Chicago, bringing the city access to jobs and food choices for healthy living," said Roundy’s chairman and CEO Bob Mariano.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel added: "With nearly 20 locations, Mariano’s has created thousands of jobs while ensuring residents have access to fresh, healthy, affordable foods."
