“While my role is not customer-facing, witnessing its broader impact is deeply rewarding,” Connolly said. Today, as the company’s senior vice president, corporate secretary and assistant general counsel for securities and governance, Connolly works closely with the company’s board of directors, senior leadership and internal partners across the business to translate an increasingly complex governance and investor landscape into impactful, tactical guidance.

During the course of her career, which is defined by legal expertise, strategy, judgment and collaboration, Connolly’s accolades include serving as the Company’s first Chief Compliance Officer, launching Dollar General’s governance and sustainability-focused annual investor outreach program, and pioneering foundational frameworks and processes while continuing to lead in securities and governance.

Connolly’s recollection of successes throughout her tenured career includes her support of the company’s first CEO who was not a member of the founding family, the company’s acquisition by private equity and subsequent initial public offering and re-listing on the New York Stock Exchange, and seeing the real estate footprint grow from 6,000 stores when she joined the company to nearly 21,000 stores today, all of which has helped further the company’s mission of Serving Others.

As she describes herself as a “constructive truth-teller” and thought partner, Connolly’s purposeful investment in colleagues to help mentor, build confidence and prepare for future roles is equally rewarding.

“Supporting and learning from others has strengthened my own judgment, making me a better advisor in my role,” Connolly explained.
