SAN FRANCISCO — Costco and Instacart have expanded their partnership to offer delivery of custom cakes and party platters from Costco warehouses nationwide.
Customers can now order the made-to-order items through the Instacart marketplace and Costco’s same-day website. The assortment includes custom sheet cakes and 10-inch round cakes as well as sandwich platters, shrimp trays, fruit platters and other prepared offerings.
Cakes can be customized online and ordered in advance for birthdays, celebrations and other gatherings. Instacart said the launch marks the first time Costco’s custom cakes and party platters have been available for delivery.
The service is powered by FoodStorm, Instacart’s order management technology for grocery fresh departments. The platform connects Costco’s bakery and deli teams with digital orders, extending e-commerce capabilities to products that traditionally require advance ordering and preparation.
“For nearly a decade, we’ve worked closely with Costco to expand the ways their members can shop online, and this is another exciting step in that partnership,” said Ryan Hamburger, chief commercial officer at Instacart. “We’re proud to bring Costco’s beloved made-to-order bakery and deli to sameday.costco.com and the Instacart marketplace, making delivery available for the first time and giving members even more ways to order for life’s biggest celebrations.”
Costco and Instacart began working together in 2017 with the launch of same-day delivery through the Instacart marketplace. Their relationship has since expanded to include Costco’s same-day e-commerce sites in the United States, Canada, Spain and France using Instacart’s Storefront Pro technology.
The companies have also added EBT SNAP payment acceptance, alcohol delivery and digital flyers, as well as a monthly $10 credit on eligible orders for Costco Executive Members. In Canada, the partnership has expanded to include Costco Business Centre.
