ISSAQUAH, Wash. — Costco Wholesale Corp. reported net sales of $16.18 billion for the five weeks ended July 5, an increase of 11.1% from the $14.57 billion recorded in the comparable period last year.
For the 44-week year-to-date period, Costco reported net sales of $136.37 billion, up 8.1% versus the $126.13 billion during the similar period last year.
Comparable sales for the five-week June period were up 11% in the U.S., 8.4% in Canada and 18% in other international markets. For the company as a whole the comp store increase was 11.5%, and e-commerce comp sales increased 85.8%.
When the impact of gasoline prices and foreign exchange impacts are excluded, comp store sales advanced 13.8% in the U.S., 12.2% in Canada, and 22.1% in other international markets. E-commerce sales were up 86.7% and comp sales for the company as a whole were up 14.4%.
Costco finished the June period with 788 warehouse clubs, including 548 in the United States and Puerto Rico, 100 in Canada, 39 in Mexico, 29 in the United Kingdom, 26 in Japan, 16 in Korea, 13 in Taiwan, 12 in Australia, two in Spain, and one each in Iceland, France, and China. Costco also has e-commerce sites in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and Australia.
