WASHINGTON—The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association for the dietary supplement and functional food industry, has started a Sports and Active Nutrition Forum (SANF) for its members.
The SANF launch represents the strategic evolution of its previous Sports Nutrition Working Group, according to CRN, which says the new forum better reflects the breadth of CRN's commitment to protecting and advancing the sports and active nutrition sector through education, advocacy, self-regulation, legal initiatives, and more.
CRN’s SANF will build on the work of the association’s Sports Nutrition Working Group, which has long provided vital resources. These include education on key topics of importance to the sector, highlighting voluntary guidelines, safety alerts on substances such as SARMs, impactful advocacy to keep sports nutrition products available in the marketplace, and legal initiatives in support of the category. The forum will provide a dedicated platform for enhanced collaboration among sports and active nutrition leaders within CRN’s membership to advance the sector responsibly.
"The launch of the Sports and Active Nutrition Forum represents a significant milestone in CRN's ongoing efforts to support this dynamic industry. This forum will not only amplify our current initiatives but also provide a focused environment for addressing the unique challenges and opportunities within sports and active nutrition," said CRN President & CEO Steve Mister.
The new forum is chaired by Simon Sum, director, scientific affairs, R&D, Herbalife, who said, "I am honored to lead CRN's Sports and Active Nutrition Forum. This initiative will play a crucial role in driving the responsible growth of the sports and active nutrition category.” Blake Stanhouse, director of regulatory affairs, Onnit, will serve as vice-chair.
Luke Huber, N.D., MBA, vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs, and Ed Wyszumiala, senior director of membership development, are the SANF's CRN staff liaisons.
The SANF will hold its first webinar on Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 3 to 4 p.m. Eastern, on “The GLP-1 Effect: Impact on the Dietary Supplement & Functional Food Market—Domestic, International, and Retail Perspectives.” The webinar is free for CRN members, and non-member access is available for $249.
