NEW YORK — CVS Health has launched a new drug store banner in South Florida, CVS/pharmacy y más (CVS/pharmacy and more), with a focus on products and services important to Hispanic consumers.

CVS Health has launched a new drug store banner in South Florida, CVS/pharmacy y más (CVS/pharmacy and more), with a focus on products and services important to Hispanic consumers.

The 12 stores are staffed by bilingual employees, have signs in Spanish and English, and offer more than 1,500 popular Hispanic brands and products, such as Café la Llave, Agustin Reyes, Fabuloso, Suavitel, Creolina and Formula 88. The stores sell such appliances as espresso makers, pressure cookers and arepa makers that are popular with Hispanics. Cafecito, a Cuban coffee, is brewed on the premises and sold between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The stores also feature more value- and family-size products, the company says. Each has a digital services center with an authorized dealer and payment center for metroPCS, bill payments (utilities, phone and cable) and international money transfer services.

CVS/pharmacy y más also offers CVS/pharmacy’s exclusive and national brands, pharmacy services, ExtraCare rewards program, and 100% beauty product guarantee.

Eleven of the stores are remodels, and one was built from scratch. Most are in the Miami area, but there are also stores in Hialeah, Kendall, Homestead and Doral.

The launch of CVS/pharmacy y más bolsters the retailer’s strong presence in South Florida’s Hispanic food and drug market. In September, CVS closed its acquisition of Navarro Discount Pharmacies Inc., the nation’s largest Hispanic-owned drug store chain, with 33 stores in South Florida catering mainly to Miami’s Cuban population, with low prices and beauty products and fragrances for Hispanic women.

The Navarro acquisition helped pave the way for the new banner, a CVS/pharmacy executive said. The CVS/pharmacy y más outlets were designed to provide a retail environment more tailored to the Hispanic consumer.

A CVS spokesman said that at this time the company has no announcement on additional CVS/pharmacy y más locations. But he added that in the future the concept could be rolled out in other markets with a high concentration of Hispanic consumers.

CVS Health, headquartered in Woonsocket, R.I., is a pharmacy innovation company helping people on their path to better health. It operates more than 7,800 retail drug stores, nearly 1,000 walk-in medical clinics, and a pharmacy benefits manager with more than 70 million plan members.
