BRUSSELS — Roland Smith will assume the roles of chief executive officer of Delhaize America and executive vice president of parent company Delhaize Group, effective October 15. He will succeed Ron Hodge, who will remain with the domestic chain in an advisory role before retiring later this year.

Smith most recently served as president and CEO of Wendy’s Co., and prior to that was president and CEO of Wendy’s /Arby’s Group Inc. He has also held the position of CEO at Arby’s Restaurant Group Inc., American Golf Corp. and National Golf Properties and AMF Bowling Worldwide Inc.
