Dollar General Literacy Foundation teams up with Bobby Bones and iHeartRadio for seventh Yellow Glasses campaign

Customers can purchase special yellow sunglasses for $2 in DG stores to help fund education and literacy programs across the country.

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — The Dollar General Literacy Foundation kicked off the seventh year of its Yellow Glasses Project on Monday with a new partnership with iHeartRadio and country radio host Bobby Bones, aimed at broadening the reach of the annual literacy fundraising campaign.

Through International Literacy Day on September 8, or while supplies last, customers at participating Dollar General stores can buy a pair of yellow sunglasses for $2, with proceeds going to the foundation's grant programs, which fund literacy and education efforts at schools, libraries and nonprofits in Dollar General's hometown communities. Since launching in 2020, the campaign has raised more than $7 million.

Under the new partnership, Bones and iHeartRadio will promote the campaign across iHeartRadio programming, multiple podcasts and Dollar General's in-store radio network, an effort supported by DGMN partners Procter & Gamble and InComm Payments. iHeartRadio is also contributing a cash donation and in-kind media support through on-air public service announcements.

"I know firsthand how education can impact your life," said Bones, host of the nationally syndicated Bobby Bones Show. "I was the first person in my family to graduate high school, and that opened a door I didn't know was there, which is why I'm so passionate about partnering with the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. A little bit of support at the right moment can open a world of possibilities. Literacy isn't just about learning to read. It's about having the confidence to dream bigger."

Bones' show reaches more than 180 stations and is the top-rated country morning show by monthly listeners. It has won four CMA Awards and four ACM Awards, and Bones is the youngest person inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame. His interview podcast, The BobbyCast, debuted on Netflix in January 2026.

Dollar General is inviting shoppers, teachers and literacy advocates to share photos wearing the yellow sunglasses on social media, tagging @TheYellowGlassesProject and using the hashtags #TheYellowGlassesProject, #ShineBrighter and #DollarGeneralLiteracyFoundation.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation was established in 1993 by former Dollar General CEO Cal Turner Jr. in honor of his grandfather and company co-founder J.L. Turner, who was functionally illiterate. In May 2026, the foundation awarded nearly $16 million in a single day, its largest one-day grant total, supporting more than 1,400 adult, family and summer literacy programs reaching approximately 1.5 million people. The foundation has awarded more than $292 million to date, benefiting more than 28 million individuals. Applications for its 2027 grant cycle are scheduled to open in January 2027.
