Dollar General Corp. will debut 625 stores and add more than 6,000 jobs in 2012. The outlets will be spread among the retailer’s 40-state operating area.
"Dollar General is excited about our tremendous opportunity for growth in existing markets as well as in new markets such as California and Massachusetts," said chairman and chief executive Rick Dreiling. "We believe the new communities and states we are entering will benefit from our stores’ convenience and value as well as the jobs and commitment to community our stores bring."
The projected jobs follow on the heels of three years of job growth for the company. Including 2012, the company will have created more than 21,000 new jobs since 2009.
In addition to the new store openings, the company plans to remodel or relocate 550 stores and open a distribution center in California, where 50 of the new units will premiere.
"California presents an extraordinary opportunity for Dollar General to fulfill its mission of serving others by delivering convenience and value," said Dreiling. "Our plans bring new opportunities for Californians, including hundreds of new jobs. For those seeking to grow with a fast-paced Fortune 200 company, Dollar General is the place to be. We look forward to being a part of this great state."
