Canadian dollar-store operator Dollarama Inc. has named Johanne Choinière as chief operating officer, effective May 12.

Choinière will be responsible for overseeing retail store operations as well as logistics, distribution and supply-chain management.

"A seasoned operator with an excellent track record and strong leadership qualities, she is an ideal candidate to help support and drive our continued growth and prosperity," says Larry Rossy, Dollarama’s chairman and chief executive officer.

Choinière comes to Dollarama after 15 years at Metro Inc., where she held increasingly senior positions, including senior vice president of the Ontario division for the company, an operator of 600 food stores and more than 250 drug stores throughout Quebec and Ontario.
Choinière earned a bachelor of business administration degree from Bishop’s University in Quebec.

Dollarama is Canada’s largest operator of dollar stores, with 874 locations in all 10 provinces selling an array of general merchandise for $3 or less. The company purchases directly from more than 900 low-cost suppliers.

Earlier this month Dollarama posted an 8% rise in fiscal fourth quarter profit on higher sales as the company increased its store count by 27 in the period.

The financial results topped analysts’ expectations.
