DXC Technology announces strategic role in Northeast Grocery’s $40M IT modernization

DXC’s multi-year collaboration has streamlined Northeast Grocery’s systems, boosted compute capacity and positioned the retailer for long-term growth and innovation.

ASHBURN, Va. DXC Technology, a global provider of information technology services, has announced its strategic role in modernizing the IT infrastructure of Northeast Grocery, Inc., the parent company of Market 32, Price Chopper and Tops Friendly Markets. The Fortune 500 technology services provider stated that its work has generated over $40 million in savings within five years, positioning the grocer for future innovation, including the use of generative AI.

DXC’s relationship with Northeast Grocery dates back to 2008, when it began supporting Tops Friendly Markets. Following the 2021 merger of Market 32 and Price Chopper with Tops, Northeast Grocery sought to unify and streamline its technology operations. DXC was selected to lead the consolidation, optimize systems and accelerate the company’s digital roadmap.

“As part of our merger, we needed to realize productivity gains and drive synergies as we unified our mainframe infrastructure,” said Scott Kessler, EVP and CIO at Northeast Grocery. “Throughout the transition, DXC enabled us to continue offering our customers the excellent service they’ve come to expect and helped us prepare for the future as we endeavor into AI and other next-generation technologies.”

Key projects have included updating the mainframe environment to zLinux, increasing compute capacity and improving operational efficiency. DXC also provides ongoing software engineering, IT operations managed services, device management and workplace collaboration support across the company’s nearly 300 stores.

“At DXC, we are committed to helping customers maximize the value of their technology investments and build for the future,” said Chris Drumgoole, President, Global Infrastructure Services at DXC. “By modernizing Northeast Grocery’s IT infrastructure, we’ve helped deliver significant cost savings and greater operational efficiency, allowing them to reinvest in stores, customer experience, and future innovation. We look forward to continuing our collaboration, integrating AI and accelerating their digital transformation.”
