Target Corp. has elevated and expanded leadership roles in key areas, as it strives to accelerate business, fuel its digital transformation and enhance its customer experience.
The moves reflect a "continued focus on the guest and our goal of delivering an extraordinary experience to ensure that Target not only meets but exceeds our guests’ expectations," said chairman and chief executive officer Brian Cornell. "With these changes, we are even better positioned to continue to drive the momentum in our business in 2015 and beyond."
Casey Carl, who had been president of omnichannel and senior vice president of strategy, was named chief strategy and innovation officer. He joins Target’s leadership team reporting to Cornell.
Additionally, the retailer is creating a center of excellence under Carl’s leadership to accelerate and strengthen its data, analytics and business intelligence capabilities.
This effort will be led by Paritosh Desai in the new role of senior vice president of enterprise data, analytics and business intelligence.
Carl joined Target in 1997 and has held a variety of roles in merchandising, negotiations, operations and the digital arena.
Jeff Jones, chief marketing officer, has taken on the added responsibility of leading Target’s work in orchestrating the consumer experience across all channels and touch points. Additionally, Jones will create and lead a new consumer center of excellence, designed to enable the organization to develop a greater sense of advocacy and empathy for the shopper in all of its business decisions.
Jones joined Target in 2012. He has experience in leading global marketing and advertising strategy and operations across more than a dozen industries, including consumer products and retail. Before coming to Target, he was partner and president of McKinney, a Durham, N.C.-based advertising agency.
Prior to that, he was executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Gap Inc., where he was responsible for leading marketing strategy, retail store design, store experience and all consumer communications, globally. He also managed Gap’s gift card subsidiary, Direct Consumer Services LLC, serving as president.
To more closely align Target’s corporate social responsibility efforts and support of the communities in which it does business, Laysha Ward has become executive vice president and chief corporate social responsibility officer. Her expanded organization will include the community relations, global affairs and sustainability teams as well as the Target Foundation. Ward had been president of community relations. Ward serves on the board of directors of the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Executive Leadership Council, and Denny’s Corp.
To drive growth of mobile and e-commerce, Jason Goldberger was named president of target.com and mobile. Goldberger joined Target two years ago from Gilt, where he launched a new Gilt Home site and grew the business by more than 40%. His background also includes eight years at Amazon.
Additionally, Dawn Block was promoted to senior vice president of target.com and mobile merchandising.
John Hulbert was named vice president of investor relations, and he will continue to build engagement among investors and the financial community.
