PHILADELPHIA — Fast-growing specialty retailer Five Below Inc. has expanded into Alabama with three stores — in Huntsville, Florence and Gadsden — that opened earlier this month.
Fast-growing specialty retailer Five Below Inc. has expanded into Alabama with three stores — in Huntsville, Florence and Gadsden — that opened earlier this month.
"Entering Alabama is an important next step as we continue to grow our footprint across the country," says Joel Anderson, the company’s chief executive officer. "We’re excited to open the first of what we hope to be many stores in this great state.
"These markets are ideal locations for our initial move into Alabama, as each boasts value-minded kids and parents looking for a fun place to shop for trend-right, high-quality products at a great value."
Five Below says it expects to open 70 stores this year, after launching 62 in 2014. It now has 365 stores in 21 states catering to preteen and teenage boys and girls, offering such merchandise as nail polish, novelty T-shirts, candy, games, school supplies, sports gear, cell phone accessories and seasonal items, with each item priced below $5.
The retailer organizes its merchandise into eight in-store worlds: Style, Room, Sports, Tech, Crafts, Party, Candy and Now. Among brands featured in the stores are Lego, Marvel, Wilson, Hasbro and Disney. It also offers private label merchandise made exclusively for Five Below.
The company last month held job fairs in Huntsville, Florence and Gadsden to recruit a workforce for the new Alabama locales.
The company said it offered certain prospective employees a competitive salary, a store manager bonus program and career growth opportunities, as well as such benefits as health insurance, including vision, dental and disability benefits; paid vacations; and an opportunity to participate in a 401(k) retirement plan.
