Food Lion Feeds provides 28 million meals with “Summers Without Hunger” campaign

Now in its second year, the summer campaign has delivered more than 64 million meals across Food Lion’s 10-state footprint.

SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion Feeds, the hunger-relief initiative of Food Lion, has provided more than 28 million meals* to children facing food insecurity through its annual Summers Without Hunger campaign. The effort ran from June 18 to July 15, during which customers purchased $2 specially designed reusable bags, with proceeds matched by 10 participating suppliers, doubling the campaign’s impact.

Partners in the initiative included Campbell’s, J.M. Smucker's, Frito-Lay, Utz, General Mills, Kellogg, Kraft Heinz, Unilever, Mondelez, and PepsiCo.

Now in its second year, the summer campaign has delivered more than 64 million meals across Food Lion’s 10-state footprint. Since its inception in 2019, the campaign has helped provide over 100 million meals to support children during the summer months when access to school meals is limited.

The funds raised benefit the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, which awards grants to local programs targeting childhood hunger.

“We are incredibly grateful to our customers and participating vendors for standing with us in the movement to end hunger,” said Kevin Durkee, Manager, Food Lion Feeds. “Together, we’ve made a meaningful difference for children facing hunger this summer, ensuring they receive vital nourishment.”

Since 2014, Food Lion Feeds has helped provide more than 1.5 billion meals** through donations, disaster relief efforts, capital investments, and volunteer work.
