Food Lion invests $270M in Greensboro, Triad stores

Investment enhances shopping experience, supports local communities and strengthens commitment to the region

SALISBURY, N.C. – Food Lion announced a more than $270 million investment across 94 stores in Greater Greensboro and the Triad, underscoring its long-term commitment to the region while enhancing the customer shopping experience. The investment also includes two new stores that opened earlier this year in Summerfield and Greensboro, North Carolina.

Guided by feedback from associates and customers, the upgrades are designed to deliver a seamless, fresh and affordable omnichannel experience. Customers will benefit from more convenient ways to shop, whether in-store, through pickup or via home delivery.

“Food Lion has proudly served the Greater Greensboro and Triad communities for more than 50 years, growing alongside generations of neighbors who have trusted us to be part of their everyday lives," said Greg Finchum, President, Food Lion. "These investments are designed for the neighbors who count on us for fresh food, affordable prices and convenience. We're also investing in our associates, whose care and dedication make a difference every day. Together with our support for local hunger-relief organizations, this investment reflects our commitment to nourishing our neighbors in the towns and cities we serve."

On Nov. 4, Food Lion will celebrate its investment with participating stores hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:45 a.m. Before the ribbon cutting, 10 lucky winners will be selected at random through raffle tickets for a chance to win $1,000 in Food Lion gift cards. Following the drawing and ceremony, customers will be invited to explore the newly remodeled store. As part of the celebration, the first 100 customers will receive special giveaways and gift cards. Additionally, from Oct. 28 through Nov. 10, customers will have additional chances to win prizes through scratch tickets available at the register.

Customers can learn more about store hours of operation, available services at each store and how to access exclusive promotions and savings by creating a digital MVP account. With the MVP Savings Card, customers can enjoy weekly deals and personalized discounts on items they buy most. Through the Shop & Earn Program, customers can activate monthly offers and earn even more savings both in-store and through Food Lion To Go.

Food Lion Feeds supports local hunger relief
As a leader in addressing food insecurity, Food Lion Feeds continues to invest in local organizations that nourish neighbors and strengthen communities. That commitment extends beyond financial support, with Food Lion associates volunteering more than 8,400 hours with community feeding partners across the Greensboro and Triad area since 2025.

In recognition of this special celebration, Food Lion Feeds provided $375,000 in investments to support three local organizations in the Greater Greensboro and Triad communities:

  • Phillips Community Market: $225,000 to support its client-choice pantry, Distribution Center and Nutrition Education Center.
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Triad: $100,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help launch an on-site pantry serving multiple area clubs.
  • Backpack Beginnings: $50,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to support its efforts to combat childhood hunger.

More than 20 years ago, Food Lion became the first grocery retailer in the country to establish a food rescue program with Feeding America®, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization. All stores regularly donate unsaleable but edible food that might otherwise go to waste to local feeding agencies to support their clients’ nutritional needs. Since 2025, Food Lion stores in the greater Greensboro-area donated more than 10 million pounds of food through this program to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.

Through Food Lion Feeds, the omnichannel retailer has donated more than 1.5 billion meals to individuals and families since 2014 and is committed to doubling its efforts with a goal to provide a total of 3 billion meals by 2032.
