UNIONDALE, N.Y. — Dan Wassong, who led the cosmetics and over-the-counter drug maker Del Laboratories Inc. as chairman, president and chief executive officer until 2004, died on January 1. He was 84.
Dan Wassong, who led the cosmetics and over-the-counter drug maker Del Laboratories Inc. as chairman, president and chief executive officer until 2004, died on January 1. He was 84.
Wassong, who was born in Warsaw, Poland, and lived in Israel before emigrating to the United States in 1950, became president of Del Laboratories in 1970. He retired in 2004 after the company was sold to DLI Holding Corp., a company jointly owned by affiliates of Kelso & Co. and Church & Dwight Co. DLI was sold to Coty Inc. in December 2007.
Del Laboratories’ major brands included Sally Hansen nail care products and Naturistics and N.Y.C. New York Color cosmetics. Its Del Pharmaceuticals subsidiary made Orajel oral analgesics.
