Gelson’s Markets names Toyo as president and CEO

Toyo brings more than two decades of experience with Gelson’s parent company

ENCINO, Calif. — Gelson’s Markets has appointed Koichi Toyo as president and CEO following the departure of Ryan Adams, who had led the company since April 2024.

Toyo brings more than two decades of experience with Gelson’s parent company, Pan Pacific International Holdings, and also currently serves as president of Murakai Corporation, another Pan Pacific retail subsidiary.

The leadership change marks another shift for the Southern California grocer, which named Adams CEO two years ago as part of a broader executive reshuffling tied to a “strategic realignment.”
