GIANT and MARTIN’S kickoff Hunger Action Month with $400,000 donation to local food banks

Company to partner with team members and customers to raise awareness and funds to support hunger relief

CARLISLE, Pa. – To kickoff Hunger Action Month this September, The GIANT Company, known locally as GIANT and MARTIN’S, will donate $400,000 to 24 food bank partners and mobilize team members and customers to help eliminate hunger throughout the communities it serves. Established by the Feeding America network of food banks in 2007, Hunger Action Month is a national campaign held every September to raise awareness and inspire action to end hunger in America.

“With 48 million people, including more than 14 million children, experiencing food insecurity across the country, Hunger Action Month serves as a reminder that food insecurity remains a reality for too many individuals and families,” said Courtney Hopcraft, manager of community relations, The GIANT Company. “At GIANT and MARTIN’S, we are committed to hunger relief efforts year-round. By giving our time, resources and support, we can help ensure our local food banks are equipped to meet ongoing community needs.”

The GIANT Company has several donation, volunteer and awareness activities planned throughout the month to support neighbors facing food insecurity including:

  • Donating a total of $400,000 to 24 partner food banks across its four-state operating area. Recipient organizations include: Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Chester County Food Bank, Downtown Daily Bread, Doylestown Community Food Bank, Dubois Food Pantry, Helping Harvest Food Bank, Huntingdon Area Food Pantry, Lebanon County Christian Ministries, Loaves and Fishes – Selinsgrove, Manna on Main Street, Maryland Food Bank, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, New Hope Ministries, Philabundance, Project SHARE, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania, SHARE Food Project, Sharing Excess, South Central Community Action Program, State College Food Bank, Warminster Food Bank, Water Street Mission, and York County Food Bank.
  • Partnering with America’s Grow-A-Row farm for “Pass the Produce: Hunger Action Month Food Relay" a monthlong initiative to deliver truckloads of fresh produce to regional food banks.

  • Donating $10 to Feeding America for every new follower of the company’s LinkedIn page and every reaction or share of its Hunger Action Month kickoff post up to $5,000 total.
