Giant Food Stores (Giant-Carlisle), a division of Ahold USA, has opened two new stores and launched Giant Pick Up service in several Pennsylvania communities. The chain also announced a third store opening to occur in December.
The two November openings occurred in Edgmont, near Harrisburg, Pa., and Ephrata, located near Lancaster, Pa. The Edgmont store is located on West Chester Pike in Newtown Square and measures 43,000 square feet. The Ephrata outlet, located on Main Street, is 66,000 square feet and incorporates the chain’s newest format and store layout, centered on a "vast perishable hall."
With the new layout, all fresh perishable departments, including produce, deli, bakery, meat and seafood, are visible as customers enter the store. The store also features a full-service pharmacy.
In combination with its sister company Peapod Inc., Giant has debuted its Giant Pick Up service, which replaces an earlier program called Shop from Home, at four locations in the Harrisburg area, including Camp Hill, Linglestown Road in Harrisburg, Montgomeryville and Willow Grove. The program has also been introduced at five locations in Montgomery and Bucks counties, including the towns of Bensalem, Hatfield, Plymouth Meeting, Royersford and Warminster.
To utilize Giant Pick Up, customers can order groceries from Peapod.com or by using the Peapod app on their smartphone. Once they have completed their order and selected a payment method, they choose a convenient one-hour pickup time on any day of the week. No minimum purchase is required.
