LANDOVER, Md. — Ahold Delhaize’s Giant Food chain, which serves the greater Washington D.C. market, will hold the grand opening of a redeveloped store in Fort Washington, Md., on Friday.

The store features large produce and organic sections that include locally grown and sourced fresh fruits and vegetables and expanded prepared food offerings, as well as a gourmet cheese section, freshly made sushi, and full-service deli, seafood, and meat departments. Besides traditional grocery offerings, the new store will also offer a full-service floral department, free Wi-Fi, and a Starbucks.

The new store includes a full-service pharmacy where, in addition to getting their prescriptions filled, consumers can get vaccines administered by Giant’s certified pharmacists, including COVID-19 vaccines and booster doses as well as seasonal flu shots. Giant’s pharmacists also offer free consultations and can make recommendations and help customers select appropriate over-the-counter remedies and prescription drugs. Customers at the new store also have access to Giant’s team of licensed in-store nutritionists for free online and phone consultations as well as online nutrition classes and webinars. Customers also have the option of placing Giant Pickup or Giant Delivers orders on or the Giant Food mobile app, and choose to either pick up their groceries at the new location or have them delivered right to their doors.

Giant said it has hired more than 180 associates to work at the new store, which was redeveloped with community support from the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation (EDC). The new store serves as a replacement for Giant’s previous store at the same location.
