He replaces Bhavdeep Singh, who had served as interim president since the departure of Anthony Hucker on September 13. Singh continues to serve as executive vice president of operations for Ahold USA.

A 30-year retail veteran, Reid most recently was group director for commercial services at Dairy Farm International, a leading pan-Asian retailer that operates more than 5,600 retail outlets throughout Asia. At Dairy Farm, Reid created and implemented a growth strategy for China and Taiwan, with responsibility for three formats.

Prior to that role, he held a number of leadership positions of increasing responsibility at Dairy Farm and other large retailers, including Boots the Chemists, where he led retail and pharmacy operations, and with Tesco PLC. At Tesco, Reid held international leadership positions in operations, including director of small formats for Central Europe; operations director for Hungary; senior Tesco executive for India; and executive vice president of the eastern region for China.

"Gordon brings a wealth of experience to his new role at the helm of Giant Landover," says James McCann, chief operating officer of Ahold USA. "In addition to running all aspects of the division, Gordon will work closely with a talented Giant Landover team to enhance customers’ shopping experience throughout the mid-Atlantic communities Giant serves."

The Giant Landover division is based in Landover, Md., and consists of 169 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia. The division also operates 155 full-service pharmacies.

Hucker was appointed executive vice president and chief strategy officer of Schnuck Markets Inc. in early October. Before his tenure at Giant Food, he served at Walmart for seven years in a variety of positions, and was involved in the development of the Walmart Express format.
