Heather Hughes brings experience gained over two decades to her role as vice president and divisional merchandise manager of personal care at Walgreens, where she has served as a dedicated team member since 2000.
Hughes leads the development of a compelling customer offer that champions self‑care through a relevant and accessible assortment of personal care products.
Her efforts are credited with sharpening the company’s works to focus in such areas as women’s health and beauty, and with the introduction of quality skin care offerings seen as a game changer for budget-minded consumers who crave luxury.
She also oversees a trusted portfolio of household essentials delivering dependable, high‑quality solutions that meet consumers’ everyday needs.
Hughes joined Walgreens after earning a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from Butler University in 1999. She started her career as a pharmacist at CVS before moving to Walgreens.
After a tenure in Walgreens pharmacy operations, she transitioned to merchandising, where she showcased her strategic vision across the health and wellness categories.
In 2022 she was promoted to the role of group vice president of beauty, personal care and seasonal. In announcing her promotion, the company lauded Hughes as “a decisive leader” with a “passion for health and well-being that makes her a natural fit for our beauty and personal care business.”
Beyond her impactful contributions within Walgreens, Hughes is a passionate advocate for women’s leadership. In 2018, she co-founded WE, a collective of women leaders in the retail and health care sectors dedicated to mentoring, driving positive change and empowering future generations.
