WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Hy-Vee Inc. is making grocery shopping a little more magical for families this fall by hosting Halloween-themed trick-or-treat scavenger hunts at Hy-Vee stores across the Midwest.
The gatherings will be held on Saturday, October 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and children will be encouraged to don costumes, explore store aisles, and hunt for items on a themed checklist. Participants can collect treats and prizes along the way, making the family shopping trip a festive fall outing.
This will be the first event hosted by The Hy-Vee Kids Club, launched earlier this fall as part of the retailer’s broader effort to strengthen its connection with families through experiential in-store programs that promote learning and wellness. The club aims to “bring big smiles to little shoppers” with interactive activities designed to make trips to the grocery store more engaging for children — and more enjoyable for parents.
Membership is free and open to kids of all ages. Enrolled members receive personalized name tags, birthday cards with special perks, and access to exclusive treats such as free cookies, fruit and stickers during store visits.
“The Hy-Vee Kids Club is about creating positive experiences that make healthy eating and grocery shopping fun,” the company said in its announcement. “By connecting kids with food in creative ways, we’re helping families build stronger relationships around mealtime and wellness.”
In addition to this weekend’s Halloween scavenger hunt, Hy-Vee plans a full calendar of themed Kids Club events throughout the year, including Noon Year’s Eve celebrations, Grill Out with Dad, and other seasonal festivities and character meet-and-greets. Members will also receive periodic freebies like birthday cupcakes, balloons and stickers to celebrate special occasions.
Parents can sign up their children for the Hy-Vee Kids Club at any local Hy-Vee store.
The initiative reflects Hy-Vee’s growing focus on community engagement and wellness as key pillars of its retail strategy. By transforming shopping trips into interactive experiences, the company is aiming to deepen customer loyalty and introduce the next generation of shoppers to the brand’s values around food, family and fun. With its first Halloween event set to draw young trick-or-treaters into stores this weekend, Hy-Vee is positioning the Kids Club as a playful new way to blend education, entertainment and community connection.
