LONDON, Ky. — Jail Breaker Potato Chips is pairing bold flavors with a social mission, leveraging its expanding retail presence at Meijer to create employment opportunities for people seeking a fresh start.
Founded by Jamie Mosley, a former county jailer with more than 16 years of corrections experience, the Kentucky-based company was built on the belief that meaningful employment can help people rebuild their lives.
After launching an initial product for correctional facilities, Mosley turned his attention to the consumer snack market.
“I’ve always loved snacks,” Mosley said. “So I thought, let’s create a really good chip.”

The company’s name reflects its mission as much as its product. Jail Breaker offers second-chance employment opportunities, including hiring individuals Mosley met while working in corrections.
“One of my top employees today is someone who used to be incarcerated in my jail,” he said. “Being able to provide opportunities for people who are committed to changing their lives, that’s a pretty special thing.”
The brand also aims to stand out through its flavor profiles, which Mosley describes as a layered experience.
“It starts sweet, then gets tangy, then comes a touch of heat,” he said. “We wanted to get right up to the edge of great flavor without going over.”
The company has expanded into multiple states, with one of its most significant milestones being its partnership with Meijer. Jail Breaker Potato Chips are now available in Meijer stores across Kentucky and in parts of Indiana, where Mosley and his team regularly conduct in-store sampling.
“Even a small relationship with Meijer is a huge honor for us,” Mosley said.
He added that direct interaction with shoppers has helped build awareness of both the product and the company’s mission.

“Making that connection with consumers is something we’ve had amazing success with,” he said.
Beyond retail growth, Jail Breaker continues to support youth sports, schools, and community events throughout its home region.
“One of the best things about having a great product is that it’s given us the ability to reinvest in our community, especially our youth,” Mosley said.
Looking ahead, Mosley said he intends to continue growing the brand while remaining committed to its founding purpose.
“Where else can one guy with one product have a chance to partner with a company like Meijer and be on the shelf next to big national brands?” he said. “That’s the American dream.”
