TORONTO — President Jeff Leger is leaving Shoppers Drug Mart to head another company.
Leger, who did not identify the company, wrote on LinkedIn that he would be joining it as CEO in early July.
He called his nearly 17 years at Shoppers "a fantastic journey of constant learning and growth." He called Shoppers and parent Loblaw Cos. "incredible companies with incredible people."
"I'm proud of how our Shoppers Drug Mart team embraced and supported the Loblaws purpose of helping Canadians 'Live Life Well,'" he added. "I'm thankful for the dedication and support of our fantastic associate owners, pharmacists, front store managers, beauty managers and their teams. We have been able to lead the world in terms of innovation in retail, beauty, and pharmacist-delivered care. All achieved because of you and our incredible central office team."
"The future is bright for the profession of pharmacy," he wrote.
Leger was named president of the drug chain in 2018. He previously served as executive vice president of pharmacy and health care for both Loblaws and Shoppers. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of Loblaw pharmacy and pharmaceutical partnerships.
He held a number of roles of increasing responsibility after joining Shoppers in 2008 as director of category management. He was vice president of pharmacy procurement, and senior vice president of pharmaceutical partnerships and MediSystem Pharmacy.
Before joining the company, Leger worked in the hospital and generic pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors.
