CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Jennifer Silberman joined Dollar Tree in October 2022 as chief sustainability officer. One of her goals, as she mentioned in an interview last year, is to make sustainability accessible, affordable and equitable.
“Sustainability is more than a vague concept; it represents an opportunity to create a lasting impact for our people, communities and the planet. At Dollar Tree, I am passionate about discovering innovative solutions that enhance the resilience of our business and communities. Every action we take — from minimizing waste to sourcing responsibly to supporting our associates and communities — brings us closer to a future where business growth and responsible practices coexist in harmony. Leading this effort is incredibly rewarding, and it is remarkable to witness how even minor changes can drive meaningful progress.”
Silberman noted that the company’s business strategy continues to evolve and emphasized that the role of sustainability is to support business growth, minimize risk, and build lasting relationships with key stakeholders. She pointed out that one of the company’s most valuable assets in this effort is its more than 200,000 associates working across over 16,000 stores, distribution centers, and corporate headquarters.
“Last year, we launched our sustainability and impact strategy focused on four key pillars — our associates, our customers, our communities and our planet. My role is to ensure that our environmental and social initiatives align with our business and meet the needs of our stakeholders."
Before joining Dollar Tree, Silberman held leadership roles at YETI, where she served as vice president of ESG (environmental, social and governance) and established the company’s first ESG priorities. She also led corporate sustainability and responsibility efforts for Target and Hilton, developing long-term strategies and programs for environmental and social impact.
