MINNEAPOLIS — As chief merchant for apparel, accessories, home and hardlines, Jill Sando oversees the buying of all of Target’s vital discretionary categories. A member of the Target executive leadership team, she also oversees the brand and portfolio management team.

Under Sando’s leadership, Target has formed numerous strategic partnerships with iconic brands and designers that have given the retailer differentiated and compelling product offerings. The most recent example is the February launch of the Disney and Marvel collections by Pillowfort, two new kids’ bedding collections by the Pillowfort Target-owned brand.

“The addition of the Disney Princess and Marvel collections into our Pillowfort line combines the power of two brands consumers love to create real joy at an incredible value for their families,” Sando said at the time of the launch. “In this only-at-Target collection, we’re bringing the magic of Disney Princess characters and Marvel Super Heroes to kids’ bedding and decor in a totally Target way — delivering incredible design and quality products that parents can trust, at amazing prices they won’t find anywhere else.”

Pillowfort is one of more than 40 owned brands that generate over $30 billion in annual sales for Target. The Disney and Marvel collections by Pillowfort are the first of three Disney collaborations that will be launched this year, with Cat & Jack and Cloud Island kids’ and baby apparel and accessories collections appearing next.

Sando began her career at Target in 1997 as an associate buyer of intimate apparel. She subsequently rose through roles in merchandising, planning and product design and development. In recent years, she has played a critical role in reimagining Target’s owned brand portfolio and revamping the retailer’s affordability strategy.
