LAKELAND, Fla. — As senior director of pharmacy administration for Publix Super Markets Inc., Katie Scanlon’s extensive portfolio includes developing and directing strategy for the pharmacy administration team as well as overseeing procurement, managed care, new business, clinical services technology and data analytics. She has proven to be a strong pharmacy advocate and last year spearheaded Publix’s efforts to secure passage of Florida’s Prescription Drug Reform Act, which requires greater transparency and accountability from pharmacy benefits managers.

In addition to her efforts to support the pharmacy industry, Scanlon is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusivity. In 2023 she received the President’s Award, which is given to employees who are seen as champions of an inclusive workforce and who devote the time and resources necessary to develop the best possible leaders within the company.

“Our communities are made up of diverse populations, so it is inherently important our team is diverse to ensure we’re looking at things from different perspectives,” she said. “Thinking about others’ viewpoints allows us to provide a higher quality of service for the communities we serve.”

Scanlon joined Publix in 2007 as a pharmacist after graduating from the University of Georgia with a PharmD degree. She worked as a pharmacy manager for five years before moving to the corporate headquarters, where she has filled a number of leadership roles in managed care and specialty pharmacy. She served as director of central and specialty pharmacy from January 2018 to July 2020, when she was promoted to her present position.
