BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Kellogg Co. has expanded its Pringles line to include a tortilla chip.
Kellogg Co. has expanded its Pringles line to include a tortilla chip.
Pringles Tortillas retain what Kellogg calls the "iconic Pringles shape," resembling slightly thicker potato chips rather than conventional tortilla chips. They
were launched earlier this month in three flavors: Original, Nacho Cheese and Southwestern Ranch.
"Pringles Tortillas are the brand’s first new product since Kellogg acquired it in 2012, and this launch represents the first time Pringles is introducing a tortilla chip," says Raj Joshi, Kellogg’s vice president of savory snacks.
Kellogg acquired the Pringles brand from its creator, Procter & Gamble Co., which developed the saddle-shape snack and started marketing it in 1967 as Pringles Newfangled Potato Chips.
The $2.7 billion Pringles acquisition made Kellogg the world’s second-largest maker of savory snacks. Pringles are sold in 140 countries, generating $1.4 billion in annual revenue.
Kellogg tapped NBA legend and former NCAA champion Ervin (Magic) Johnson to promote Pringles Tortillas, which hit store shelves shortly before the 2014 NCAA Men’s Division 1 Basketball Tournament began.
